Comment on image at left:
Note that Mona Lisa's eyes are nearly closed -- as if she were
caught in a moment of introspection. The pose is reminiscent of
images of the Madonna and Child that appeared in the 15th and 16th
centuries in which her nearly closed eyes of the seem to imply a
deep sadness, commonly held to signify her foreknowledge of the
Crucifixion. What is its meaning in the context of this
advertisement? |
