Oh
Speedo, how I have missed thee since the Rocket From The Crypt finale at
the Hard Rock Café and the Hot Snakes swansong at Bowery.
Luckily,
Mr. Reis has joined back up with Gar Wood to bring us, the unworthy, the
mighty Night Marchers. Playing its first New York City show at Mercury
Lounge (where Hot Snakes also debuted), the band set fire to the venue
with a blistering 11-song set with tracks from the premier album See You
In Magic.
After a bit of amusing pre-music banter between Reis and Wood, the quartet
(that also features former Delta 72 drummer Jason Kourkounis and Snakes
bassist Tommy Kitsos) launched into the bottom-toned and fuzzy “Bad
Bloods” and didn’t stop from there. Other tracks included
“In Dead Sleep,” “Branded,” “You’ve Got Nerve,” “Total Bloodbath” and the
RFTC-esque “I Wanna Deadbeat You.”
According to a Hawaiian legend, the night marchers are ghosts of ancient
warriors who roam the lands, and if you look directly into their eyes, you
will disappear and never be seen again. One might say the same thing about
this young but rock solid outfit. However, as Speedo was shaking hands
from the stage, the grateful crowd welcomed the musicians back and thanked
them for “making all of our Myspace dreams come true.”
