This competition presents, per contestant, as many as three images relating to the concept of "time." The contestants are free to interpret the theme in any way they choose; but, in so doing, as always, they run the risk that their works may not be understood.  Comprehension of the images presented, of course, is ultimately a task of judges. It is they who determine which submissions are best and most profoundly interpret the topic -- just as it is the duty of the presenters to convey the relevance of their images. Judges, however, are not always well informed or perceptive. As a result, conflicts are bound to occur.

For this author, each of the images is ultimately a metaphor of time. Each image conveys the repeating tragedy of natural or unnatural death.  It is at this moment that the passage of time, as we know it, ends. We presume that in death time ceases and is only surpassed by what has been called a "triumph of eternity."
Time vanquishes Fame, and Fame Death

Consider Petrarch's well-known sequence of the stages of spiritual evolution.

Petrarch's Trionfi:
The Triumph of Love, The Triumph of Chastity; The Triumph of Death;
The Triumph of Fame; The Triumph of Time; The Triumph of Eternity

More on the Triumphs of Petrarch.
